Comprehensive Fee Financial Protocol
1) Remain fully enrolled as a PLNU student regardless of program provider,
2) Pay typical PLNU tuition, shared room, and student fee in the form of a comprehensive fee*
3) Benefit from their PLNU financial aid package**; and then
4) PLNU pays directly for the abroad program tuition and housing. We will indicate what you can expect will be included and not included.
Provision of meals varies by program but is often not included. Some programs offer upgrades to housing, optional excursions, or optional academic programs - these may incur a surcharge or additional billing from the host institution to the student.
Expect a difference between the PLNU comprehensive fee and any published prices for study abroad programs online. We maintain the student as a part of the PLNU student population, maintain institutional aid in most cases, and offer support and campus resources by distance. Students may also take one online course through PLNU while abroad, when necessary toward on-time graduation planning.
** Departmental institutional scholarships (performance related) such as athletics, music, forensics, and drama are subject to approval by the granting department for use on study abroad programs/semesters. Tuition remission agreements (parent employed by PLNU or affiliated institution) do not apply to study abroad semesters.
We encourage students to apply for the various scholarships offered through the PLNU Study Abroad Office.
Please contact the Director of Study Abroad if you have any questions regarding the study abroad financial protocol.
Please note that this Schedule of Fees is SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
PLNU Study Abroad Schedule of Semester Program Fees
Academic Year 2026-2027
Semester study program students are charged a comprehensive fee (CF) equal to PLNU: block tuition ($24,750) + shared room charge ($4450) + general student fee ($500)
The CF for AY 2026-2027 is $29,700
When the abroad/away semester program cost to PLNU is in excess of PLNU’s expenses a surcharge is calculated and applied to the CF. This includes the average PLNU merit and/or need scholarship award which generally remains applicable to study abroad/away semesters. A CF surcharge will appear as an addition to housing.
Special need-based scholarships are available for study abroad students. The scholarship application process quickly follows the study abroad application deadline. Many partner/affiliate programs offer need-based aid. There are additional financial notes at the end of this document.
