U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory to Israel

December 28, 2018-The current U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory at the date of this report’s publication assesses Israel at Level 2, indicating travelers should exercise increased caution due to terrorism. Reconsider travel to the West Bank due to terrorism, potentially violent civil unrest, and the potential for armed conflict. Do not travel to Gaza due to terrorism, civil unrest, and armed conflict.  Point Loma study abroad students and related travelers should heed the U.S. Department of State’s warnings. Students should exercise caution and be prepared to restrict movements to avoid exposure to potential unrest. Read the entire Travel Advisory.

Point Loma Nazarene University and the Office of Global Studies are closely monitoring the developments through the U.S. Department of State, and our program partners. If there are any changes in the security environment, we will communicate accordingly and appropriately. 

 

Our standing advice for study abroad participants is as follows:
  • Follow the safety and security advice and guidance from your host program/institution.
 
  • Register for U.S. Department of State (STEP) security alerts online and heed recommendations.
 
  • Download the Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) app to check in with OGS in an emergency as well as to find recommendations for medical services and insurance forms
 
  • Download and activate the AlertTraveler app and respond to check-ins
 
  • Be aware of your surroundings and respect local sensitivities over recent developments.
 
  • Follow U.S. Embassy advice and stay tuned to media and local contacts.
 
  • Consider carefully any information relayed on social media and ensure appropriate corroboration through reliable sources.
 
  • Communicate proactively with your family and the Office of Global Studies regarding your well-being. 
 
  • Check the most recent Alerts at the Embassy and Consulate General websites for the latest information on travel in all of these areas. 
 
  • Maintain a high degree of situational awareness and exercise caution at all times, especially at checkpoints and other areas with a significant presence of security forces.
 
  • Avoid demonstrations and crowds.
 
  • Follow the instructions of security and emergency response officials.
 
  • Beware of and report suspicious activities, including unattended items, to local police.
